It was another European city for this year’s qualifiers. Lausanne, Switzerland is a place most Singaporeans would want to go to, due to its contrasting weather and snow-capped mountains. The qualifiers got to experience real snow on the Swiss Alps, some of them for the first time, when they visited Glacier 3000.
They also learnt about Swiss history at Chillon Castle, on how its fortress and moat were built to defend it from its enemies. At the same time, they got to look at its interior, where the bedrooms and ancient armoury exhibits were. Chocolate Fondue, which is a favourite dessert at buffets, was popular with those who stumbled upon it, during their time in Gruyeres, a medieval town.
Of course, each convention has a welcome event, and this one was the “Spring Garden Soirée" Welcome Cocktail at the Beau-Rivage Palace Lausanne, which saw the qualifiers dressed in spring-coloured and floral attire, while enjoying dainty canapes and sweet wines.
The "AXA Palace Royale" Gala Dinner, to end the trip, gave the attendees a chance to dress like kings and queens. They were enthralled by a cultural acrobatic performance, and a few lucky ones even got to win prizes in a draw. Some attendees also accepted the challenge to showcase their singing talents. It was truly a glamorous and fun-filled dinner for everyone.
Once again, this convention was one for the qualifiers to store in their memory bank.
