The place was Siem Reap, Cambodia for the Asian convention qualifiers. A land of mystical architecture and rural village settings, it was a vastly different experience for the qualifiers, coming from a cosmopolitan city like Singapore. The weather was however similar to Singapore’s.
The first day was one of Cambodian delicacies, as there was both a welcome lunch and dinner for them. Before the meals though, they went on a floating village tour, learning about what life is like for the villagers there. They also toured the famous Angkor Wat, and ended the day with a welcome dinner while there. The dress code for the dinner was white, which encapsulated a sense of reverence towards the serene and pious atmosphere.
The last event before going back was a dinner party at a lounge bar, where ‘live’ Cambodian songs allowed them to let their hair down and celebrate their achievements, a fitting occasion for basking in their victories.
