Ong Ai King

Ai King was a quantity surveyor for almost 10 years before joining this industry.

The reason why she quitted her ‘well-paid’ job, she was sick of the routine work, not able to control her time schedule, work late, bring her work home, no work-life balance, everyday only work, work, work. People see her as having a good job, 5 work days a week, min 2 months bonus, company car provided, 3000 plus of income back then.  But to her that was a job with no future.

She knew her current mentor since 1991 through a referrer for her 1st saving plan, who has also talked to her about this career for nearly 7 years. In year 2000, she decided she wanted a change in her career and her life.  She took up the challenge which did not know what will happen in future, know nothing about this industry, never did any research, just join because of trust.

Start from scratch, learning all over again like going back to school, very tough as that was a total change. Today she is enjoying what she does which is helping people to address their financial concern. The turning point is when she had done her first illness claim after joining the industry for 3 years.  A client who was diagnosed with end stage leukemia with a pregnant wife at that time. She did not know how to comfort the worried wife when she visited him in the hospital, instead be there for them as mental support and a claim cheque of $110k was presented to them. At that point of time she realize that her decision to join this career is a right choice. To touch people’s life, bring hope to them when they are in financial needs. That is what made her stay till today and also give her the drive to continue whenever she face any set back, she constantly tell herself to keep going and assist more people, so that she can bring more benefits to everyone.
